5 Skin Care Myths De-Bunked

Are you unsure what's good and bad for your skin? There may be a lot of myths out there, but don't worry! Here at Skin Joy, we want to give you some clarity so that you can keep your skin looking its best. We have separated fact from fiction as we debunk five common skincare misconceptions and set the record straight on proper self-care practices.

1. Vitamin A is an exfoliant

It's a popular misconception that retinol is an exfoliant. It isn’t, as retinol cannot break the bonds that hold dead skin cells to the surface. However, it does have other important benefits. As an antioxidant and skin-restoring ingredient, retinol can significantly influence the anti-ageing of skin cells.

2. SPF is only necessary in Summer

With all the knowledge about the damaging effects of the sun, it's surprising that some people still don't protect their skin. In Australia, where the sun is particularly harsh, it is crucial to incorporate SPF into your daily skincare routine. Our Skin Joy SPF products not only moisturise and hydrate your skin but also offer protection against harmful UV rays. Don't let the sun damage your skin - use SPF for year-round protection.

3. Oily skin doesn’t get dehydrated

Contrary to popular belief, oily skin is not immune to dehydration. While dry skin is a skin type, dehydration is a separate issue that can affect any skin type, including oily skin. In fact, if your skin lacks proper hydration, it may actually produce more oil to compensate.

To combat this, follow these quick steps: drink plenty of water, cleanse your skin, hydrate with our Super Hydrating Serum ( A specialised oil-free serum targeted at keeping your skin's moisture levels at bay), and protect with a high-quality moisturiser.

4. Foaming cleansers are bad for your skin

Foaming cleansers are not bad for your skin! Unlike milky or creamy formulas, these cleansers foam up when mixed with water, creating a luxurious lather that effectively removes impurities and makeup.

While they may not be suitable for everyone, this is completely normal because we all have different skin types and requirements.

5. Once you're over puberty you are no longer susceptible to acne

FALSE! Acne can strike at any stage of life, and age does not shield us from breakouts.

Remember, acne is often caused by underlying hormonal issues. So, when our hormones fluctuate during pregnancy or menopause, we become more vulnerable to acne once again.

Additionally, factors such as stress, diet, lifestyle, and improper skin care can also contribute to breakouts.

When it comes to good skincare practices, it’s important to know the facts. Whether you have oily skin, dry skin, or combination skin - understanding how to properly care for your complexion is key.

Our mission at Skin Joy is to provide you with up-to-date information about all things related to skincare. We hope this knowledge brings you one step closer to truly finding joy within your skin.
